Occupational safety specialist for offices in the Rhine-Main region
Across Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz and Aschaffenburg, Safety Club supports office and administrative businesses with an occupational safety specialist on site. The region spans three federal states, and each has its own occupational safety administration. The VBG side is simpler: most of the cities fall under the Mainz district office.
Safety Club provides the external occupational safety specialist for office businesses in the Rhine-Main region: one contract, a specialist from the network on site and audit-proof documentation in the client portal.

Occupational safety authorities in the Rhine-Main region
In Hesse, state supervision lies with the regional councils. The occupational safety department of the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt has three sites, each with its own supervisory area. Mainz falls under the Struktur- und Genehmigungsdirektion Süd of Rhineland-Palatinate, Aschaffenburg under Bavarian trade supervision.
| State | State occupational safety authority | Cities and VBG district office |
|---|---|---|
| Hesse | Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt, Department VI, Frankfurt am Main site | Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach: Mainz district office; Hanau: Würzburg district office |
| Hesse | Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt, Department VI, Wiesbaden site | Wiesbaden, Bad Homburg: Mainz district office |
| Hesse | Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt, Department VI, Darmstadt site | Darmstadt, Rüsselsheim: Mainz district office |
| Hesse | Regierungspräsidium Gießen, Department II (occupational safety and internal affairs) | Gießen: Mainz district office |
| Rhineland-Palatinate | Struktur- und Genehmigungsdirektion Süd, Regionalstelle Gewerbeaufsicht Mainz | Mainz: Mainz district office |
| Bavaria | Regierung von Unterfranken, Gewerbeaufsichtsamt (Würzburg) | Aschaffenburg: Würzburg district office |
Besides the city itself, the Frankfurt site covers the city of Offenbach, Hanau (an independent city since the start of 2026), the Main-Kinzig district and the Wetterau district. The Wiesbaden site looks after the Hochtaunus district with Bad Homburg and the Main-Taunus and Rheingau-Taunus districts; the Darmstadt site covers the Groß-Gerau district with Rüsselsheim, among others. Of the cities in the table, only Hanau and Aschaffenburg belong to the VBG's Würzburg district office.
Frankfurt as a financial centre: trading desks, archives and reporting deadlines
Trading and treasury desks often carry four or more monitors side by side. The risk assessment then has to check whether the outer screens can be read without constant head-turning and whether waste heat from the equipment changes the room climate. What applies to temperature and ventilation is covered in Office climate: temperature and ventilation.
Banks, insurers and audit firms keep receipts and files for years. Mobile shelving, tall shelves with step stools and carrying full archive boxes therefore belong in the assessment, even if the archive is in the basement and rarely visited.
Quarter-end closes, audit season and transactions pack work into short periods. Long working days, being reachable in the evening and skipped breaks then count among the mental stress factors the risk assessment has to capture. Where confidential documents are kept, also agree in advance which rooms the specialist will enter during the walkthrough.
Frankfurt high-rises and head offices with many visitors
Many Frankfurt offices are in high-rises or large buildings with several tenants. For alarms and evacuation, the building as a whole is what counts. Agree with the operator how the alarm is raised, which stairwell serves your floors and who checks after an evacuation that everyone is out. Your own escape and rescue plan should match the building's fire safety regulations.
Associations and corporate head offices often host committees, seminar groups and visitors who do not know their way around the building. These guests receive no safety training, yet in an emergency they still have to find the way out. Plan for escorts, an assembly point and enough fire wardens. How many you need also depends on how many people are in the building at the same time.

Frequently asked questions
Do Offenbach and Hanau fall under the regional council's Frankfurt site?
Yes. Department VI of the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt covers Frankfurt, Offenbach, Hanau, the Main-Kinzig district and the Wetterau district from its site on Gutleutstraße in Frankfurt. At the VBG, however, Hanau belongs to the Würzburg district office, while Frankfurt and Offenbach belong to Mainz.
Our head office is in Wiesbaden and a second office is in Mainz. Which bodies are responsible?
For Wiesbaden, the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt through its Wiesbaden site; for Mainz, the Regionalstelle Gewerbeaufsicht Mainz of the Struktur- und Genehmigungsdirektion Süd. At the VBG, both cities belong to the Mainz district office. You need a separate risk assessment for each of the two offices.
Does anything different apply to an office in Aschaffenburg compared with Frankfurt?
Not in substance: the Occupational Health and Safety Act and DGUV Regulation 2 apply in Bavaria just as in Hesse. The responsible bodies are different, though. Aschaffenburg is in the administrative district of Lower Franconia, state supervision lies with the trade supervisory office of the Regierung von Unterfranken in Würzburg, and the VBG's Würzburg district office is responsible.
